In 2009, OptConnect was born under the Grant Victor family of companies. As part of that organization, OptConnect was fortunate to be able to work closely with the charitable arm of the company called Grant Victor Cares as well as establish our own program called OptConnect Gives Back. Though we separated into our own company in 2017 as part of the Graham Partners portfolio of companies, we still work with Grant Victor to help communities in need. Every year Grant Victor partners with Koins for Kenya, a non-profit organization that is working to improve the lives of the people - especially the children - in Kenya. This summer a handful of Grant Victor employees traveled abroad to Africa to help build schools for those communities in need.As a key focus of OptConnect Gives Back, we wanted to continue to participate in this incredible work so we made a sizeable donation to help make those schools a reality for the people of Kenya. This year’s target location was a small village called Mawe Mobamu, located in Kilifi County. The area had no public primary school so residents were forced to take their children to private schools, which most could not afford. Therefore, the potential benefits of having a local school available were enormous. “We wanted more than just a temporary solution,” said Kim Felt, Office Admin at Grant Victor. “By Building schools we are helping to build a foundation of education which will be a long term solution for the people of Mabomu.”For the project, local construction crews were hired to help with the labor. This created jobs for some of the locals, it truly was a community project. The construction started on August 6th and with hard work the K-8 schools were completed on September 4th.On September 5th a dedication took place where schools were named and officiated. A member of parliament, the village chief, and dignitaries from the school board were in attendance. The dedication consisted of heartfelt speeches, live performances, and a broadcast crew to capture the memories. Grant Victor honored OptConnect’s involvement by naming one of the school rooms in our honor. “We are thrilled to have been a part of this incredible undertaking for many years. Knowing these kids will have a place to learn, develop and grow is something we can all be proud of. We are grateful for Grant Victor’s vision and passion and for letting us be a part.” Now that schools have been built, the next step will be getting these children sponsors so that they can attend school with supplies paid for.
