IoT Fuse is a non-profit professional network of makers, innovators, and business leaders in the Internet of Things space. IoT Fuse holds an annual IoT Fuse Conference that focuses on getting together makers, hobbyists, engineers, and all types of innovative people to network and learn about the connected world and share their recent success stories and lessons learned along the way. The conference aims to demonstrate how companies are using IoT technology to improve all aspects of their businesses.
Due to COVID-19, IoT Fuse moved to a virtual tradeshow to comply with Minnesota state and local mandates for social distancing requirements. It was a quick pivot to a virtual trade show format, but IoT Fuse management did an exceptional job with the quick transition. This show was a great opportunity for OptConnect to showcase ema and the cellular managed services that it offers with an embedded application.
At IoT Fuse 2020, we presented in partnership with Banyan Hills. We were able to showcase our Smart Embedded Modem™, ema, and they focused on their enterprise IoT platform, Canopy, to control connected devices, like ema, at scale. While we had originally planned to present in person, we were able to adjust quickly and find a way to virtually showcase the great synergies that exist between OptConnect and Banyan Hills. The virtual demo included an overview of ema:Play, our development kit, that gives engineers and developers a platform to bring their IoT ideas to life by proving their concepts before they take on the task of developing their own custom board to accept ema. Our ema:Play provides a “sandbox” environment with hardware and software interfaces.
Banyan Hills was able to effectively highlight and showcase all the incredible features available through their Canopy IoT analytics platform. Canopy is a real-time dashboard with advanced features, and configurable KPIs that gives you complete visibility into your network. Canopy also allows you to manage the overall health of your devices, address service issues before problems arise, and provide customers with entirely new experiences.
We received incredible feedback from those who attended the virtual presentation. While it would have been ideal to be face to face, technology made the space between us much narrower than we anticipated.
IoT Fuse's virtual event was likely a precursor for more of what's to come, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. While we all learn how to do business in the “new normal” we find ourselves in, we look forward to many more future opportunities to continue to showcase OptConnect ema™ virtually. We will have an abbreviated version of the full workshop available soon for those not able to attend, but who are interested in learning more.
